Now YOU can become an HNN blogger.
Welcome to Your Take, an experiment that will test the limits of democracy in the blogosphere. Your Take is designed to give you--our readers--a national platform for your views.
You have to register to post a blog entry. Click here to register. If you have a long entry, put the first two or three paragraphs in the first big box and the rest in the second big box.
Both bloggers and readers are expected to respect HNN's rules of civility.
EDITOR'S NOTE: AS OF 6-2-06 HNN IS REQUIRING READERS WHO BLOG TO REGISTER BEFORE USING "YOUR TAKE."
I don't know if it will do any good, but I did send an e-mail from the Contact link on the banner and asked if they would try to periodically go through this YOUR TAKE blog and remove the medication and web ranking posts.
Most sites now require a log in... or the use of the combination letters/numbers to be entered with each post to prevent bots from doing this.
It is a shame though...
oh well, unfettered capitalism...
if it ain't illegal...
with something they call democracy that is supposed to be developing or something and tons of money being thrown around and falling in contractor’s pockets. Also lots of carnage. Huge losses of human life in this hostile environment - this daily routine of Iraq is not reflected in America’s newspapers or the major networks. We’re told by our head clowns that things are going just fine in Iraqi land. Genocide in Darfur is like a footnote in a boring historical abstract.. Meanwhile, back in Clown Nation, we are busy with the more important things in life: entertainment, celebrities, American Idol
James Howard Kunstler said it right in ‘The Long Emergency’:
"We've turned into this nation of overfed clowns, riding around in clown cars, eating clown food, watching clown shows. We've become a nation of cringing, craven fuckups." As you can see here for yourself on Your Take by the psycho who post drug adverts.
I recommend HNN drop Your Take completely since it’s not working the way it is set up.
Despite their plea of ignorance, it was difficult to hide the facts of their criminal actions.
Lay sold his own Enron shares even as he assured employees and shareholders that the company was fiscally sound.
What a low-life. He deserves what he gets.
Parliamentary, or Congressional, immunity from regular criminal investigation and prosecution is a bad thing. Immunity can have the effect of entrenching corruption. In the past decade, delayed prosecutions of French and Italian leaders (and Russian parliamentarians) have not served those countries well.
Congressmen should not be beyond the reach of the law.

So now an alleged Bin Laden tape claims that Moussaoui had no part in the September 11 plot. I can believe that.
But let's not forget that for months and months, Bin Laden claimed that he himself had nothing to do with September 11, and much of the Arab world believed him. On its own, Bin Laden's word on any matter is worthless.

A-Origin;
"Jihad", derivatives include "jihadist","Al Jihad=Jihadism" etc, is derived from the verb "jahada= exert (one self)to the maximum .
Theologically and culturally it is used to denote any special, out of the day to day ordinary, effort that goes to achieve a certain task or mission.
JIHAD is manifested in personal improvement (travel to far places to seek knowledge is Jihad),
Our man in the White House has left untold wreckage in his wake and continues to do so.
Of course, impeachment is out of the question since the politicians and the American people have no heart for it. Either they are too busy being self-centered or too busy being fearful of what might happen if they did speak up. The NSA has our names but that is only the tip of the data-mining iceberg. Oh, the other stories that could be told if it were not so dangerous to do so.
What is it with these chickenhawks? All their solutions seem to come from the advice of the Christian Almighty and "shootin’" people. "Shootin'" people is no longer the only foreign policy solution.
Stressed out troops will be under federal authority instead of under the governor’s authority as it should be when it comes to law enforcement. As usual our Chickenhawk in Chief is set to provoke another war. This one against poor civilians trying to find a better life. Of course, these poor may not realize they won’t find a better life in the US any more than they could in Mexico. The elite in Mexico are doing the same as the elite in the US are doing to their poor.
A reminder: In 1997, a Marine corporal deployed in the Mexico border area shot and killed Esequiel Hernandez, an 18-year-old goat herder. The incident led to a congressional review that criticized the Justice Department's handling of the case and ended the Marines' involvement in policing the border.
Now with six to ten thousand stressed out troops on the Mexico border we can expect a few incidents similar to the killing of civilians in Iraq by Marines for revenge.
Would it be considered bad manners if I asked that enteries be limited to actual opinions or statements? Please, no links to obscure "things" unless there is a relevant reason that can be explained within the summary.

But so far there is no military draft because the Christian Right (America’s Christian Taliban) is doing the recruiting on behalf of the government who have been in control of the GOP for some time. And the GOP of course, is more a religious than a political organization. What we are dealing with these days is more than mere political corruption ...or a Jesus who has been stolen from traditional Christians but with a President who describes himself as a "messenger" of God who is doing "the Lord's will." In Newsweek, March 4, 2003. "Bush has made several statements indicating he believes God {read our God} is involved in world events and that he and America have a divinely guided mission."

Today's hard right seeks total dominion. It's packing the courts and rigging the rules. The target is not the Democrats but democracy itself. (The American Prospect)

I work for a TV production company in the UK, we are putting together a pilot for an exciting history documentary series which will ultimately be shown on the History Channel in the US. Our challenge is to find a fresh faced, enthusiastic host who can bring history to life in an energetic, compelling fashion. They could be male or female, an expert in military history, or not. The main thing is that they are intelligent enough to ask experts relevant to each programme the right questions on behalf of the viewer. They should be gutsy and charismatic. They will ideally be under 40 (it will be quite a physically demanding show, plus we are trying to appeal to a younger age bracket than other history programmes tend to attract). Do you know someone who fits the bill? If so I'd love to hear from you.
Eminent domain is not the will of a free America.
If the United States Government has the right to take property because of money interests, then we are not living in a free society, but rather in a communist one.
It is a terrible thing when a business can take over a property that has been under family ownership for generations, because of financial gain and other means.
This is not what our founding fathers had in mind when they declared this nation to be free.
We have forgotten that this great country was founded on the words, "We the people ...."
Alex Munro would very much like your help/comments!
I am conducting a study into the Khmer Rouge, and the nature of their actions in Cambodia. However, more important to my study (it is primarily focused on historiography) is the conflicting opinions of a wide range of scholars, and how these have been able to develop.
While browsing through the internet for information about the HUD awarding of contracts based on "political correctness" I ended up revisiting an older practive that a lot of people found "questionable." The administration's manipulation of the media to promote their No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act agenda, I went back to look at the fake "news" items created by the Ketchum firm.
While mucking through the various documents I happened upon the results of their focus group done by Ketchum to measure the effectiveness of their message.
What I found was incredible!
Our administration doesn’t really give a hoot about our soldiers - after the injured are returned from the war in Iraq too many are literally kicked on post-operated knees, subject to derision, ignored or improperly treated.
"I was more worried about my son at Fort Sill than the one in Iraq."
In interviews, soldiers and parents said injured troops regularly suffered punitive treatment as malingerers, although many had joined specifically to serve in Iraq.

The Republican way of cover-ups, lies, and more!
We went to war because of a lie.
WMD? Not there!
You do not spy on Americans without legal permission.
That is KGB like.
Did you know that George W. Bush once made fun of the issue of WMD?
Ever take a brief look at a "non-partisan" think tank's website? Usually within a few seconds it is obvious that there is a partisan agenda. How can any rational person base their findings on a particular political or economic agenda? The answer is that they can't if they let the facts lead to their conclusions. However, think tanks start with their conclusions and then find evidence to support them.
Until the military gets its act together, there are some reasons, especially for women, to avoid military service like the plague:
"During his training in 2002, Stephen told me that his drill instructor gave a rousing speech at the end of Marine combat training: "This is the reality of war. We Marines like war. We like killing. We like raping females. This is what we do." (former Marine Corps Lance Corporal Stephen Funk)
Stephen, the former Marine corporal, said that his training on operating machine guns included a tip to avoid overheating the machinery: Squeeze the trigger for as long as it takes to chant, "Die, fucking raghead, die."
Basic training also reinforces racism.
"Iraq war veteran Aidan Delgado, who served as a mechanic in the 320th Military Police Company in Abu Ghraib, described how his training led to racism against Muslims and Arabs.
"'Hajji' is the new slur, the new ethnic slur for Arabs and Muslims. It is used extensively in the military," he told a reporter. "The Arabic word refers to one who has gone on a pilgrimage to Mecca. But it is used in the military with the same kind of connotation as 'gook,' 'Charlie,' or the n-word.’ "

Ignorance and racism here is nothing new - it’s an old culture in the US military.
Fukuyama's book The End of History and the Last Man is disliked mostly by people who can't openly admit their fidelity to the anachronism of Marxism, which Fukuyama aptly characterizes as a reactionary and regressive ideology that sought flight from the challenge of liberal democracy. Readers of, among others, Jean Francois-Revel, Eric Fromm, Eric Hoffer and Paul Berman should recognize in Fukuyama that liberal democracy and free-market capitalism are the Revolution and they are the Revolution because they offer no final answers, leaving man alone to confront himself and shape his own destiny. Fukuyama does not argue that the world must necessarily become democratic and capitalistic; he does argue that there is nothing else it can become unless it goes backwards.
Fukuyama is thus subject to grossly unfair criticism from people who have either not read his book or can't read his book. Thus Pat Buchannan, for example, takes a shot at Fukuyama in pointing that radical Marxism is alive and well in Venezeula and spreading throughout the region - there is nothing in Fukuyama's book that says that such things can't or won't happen.
To the dismay of Marxists, however, Fukuyama says that if they do, then they are regressive and not progressive and bound to fail, not because of illiberal corporate hegemony, but because illiberal governments are bound to produce internal contradictions that cannot address the fundamental human needs that people throughout history have sought to address in constructing their social and political orders.
Fukuyama is not flippantly triumphalist - far from it. He recognizes that flight from freedom is as strong an impulse, and possibly stronger, than any impulse to embrace freedom. This is especially true once the responsibility of freedom falls upon those who haven't had it. Fukuyama's end of history thus leaves man with a perpetual challenge. It is not Fukuyama, but those who believe, not challenges, but challenge itself can be overcome.
