David Irving brands critics 'little Nazis'

The controversial historian, David Irving, branded his critics as "little Nazis who Hitler would be proud of" as he announced that his controversial tour of wartime sights in Poland would now include a string of the Third Reich's death camps.

The plan to visit Sobibor, Majdanek and Belzec, not mentioned in the original schedule of a £1,500-a-head tour led by the 72-year-old, comes despite fierce criticism of his presence in Poland from the country's Jewish community.

The heated exchanges occurred as authorities at Auschwitz said they would ban Mr Irving from leading a tour at the camp. Officials at other camps said they would allow the historian to take his group round but stressed they would "monitor" the visits, and warned they would call the police if he made any comments that broke Polish laws prohibiting the denial of Nazi crime.

The bitter reaction to Mr Irving's presence in Poland reflects deep sensitivities over the tragic history of the country's Jewish community....
