Mr. Pearlman, who previously taught at the Universities of Illinois and Nebraska, retired in 2006 as a professor of history at the United States Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth. He is author of Warmaking and American Democracy: The Struggle over Military Strategy, 1700 to the Present, which won the Henry Adams Prize, and To Make Democracy Safe for America: Patricians and Preparedness in the Progressive Era.
